business.avast.com is down?

I´m faced “Sorry, we are unable to display this page at this time.” when headed to business.avast.com.

Some details or comments? When it will be back?

everything should be up & running now. We were facing several outages between 1:15 PM and 2:00 PM CEST due to unexpected error (extreme load on backend services) after releasing new version 2.3. At 2:00 PM CEST we reverted back to version 2.2. Currently we are investigating the issue.

Anyway short outage were expected due to new version needs non trivial DB upgrade.

Lesson learned:

  • We will announce even planned & short service outage.
  • In case of emergency revert to previous version ASAP.
  • Long term: “beta program” and canary deployment to not harm all user base.

because of an issue yesterday, we need to investigate, what caused the problem. Therefore we are possibly expecting a few more short outages of business.avast.com in a while (between 3:15 and 3:45 PM CEST). Sorry for that. Hopefully we will have enough information to solve the problem and release a new version with planned improvements.

Application is up and running, we had around 10-15 minutes downtime. We are now limiting request rate of devices connected to the console and still finding the root cause of the problem. Synchronization with console (e.g. running a Task, changing a Settings Template) can take longer than usual. I will keep you informed, when this limitation is removed. Thanks for understanding.

Application is running in a standard mode from yesterday, approximately 7:00 PM CEST. We are taking steps to avoid such a problem in the future. This means especially making Data Centers more isolated and therefore be able to test bigger changes on a limited number of accounts before we release it to the whole user base.
