Hello!
I would like to buy an all-around monitor for my PC. If anyone can suggest me something good (good quality display, not glossy, nice colours, high response time, wide viewing angle etc.). I would like a LED LCD, 24" (16:9) screen with HDMI (or DVI) connection. Price: something about 400 Euros, but preferably less!
Thank you for any suggestions you may have!

Hehe thanx Pondus. Well, I tought that someone on the Avast forum has a good monitor and would recommend it. Do you know of any special sites/forums which deal with monitors? Thanx!
Iām sure everyone has a favorite monitor.
Mine is Haans-g but there are many good ones.

I have had loads of different TFT monitors some pretty expensive and some relatively cheap. My last one a 26" 1920X1200 resolution is fine when I bought it a couple of years ago monitors of that size were very expensive. So this one was one of the cheapest around, at the time (Digimate āDGMā still nearly Ā£300) and it has performed great for my needs.
Monitors have come done in price a great deal now and you are almost spoilt for choice, if you are a gamer then fast refresh rate, if you are using it for photo editing with photo and print realistic colours you are talking specialist monitors not your cheapo monitor.
So the decision is more one of what you are going to use it for as that would narrow down the field.

Personally I like the ones offered by LG and Samsung but we just bought one yesterday at Walmart to replace an aged CRT that made a sound like a cap gun being fired and then went black. When I say aged I mean so old that itās maximum listed resolution was 800 X 600. We had been running it at 1024 X 768 for about 6 months after it having not been used at all for at least 5 years. The one we bought is an AOC and they have a favorable reputation for good products at reasonable prices. Itās an 18.5" wide screen LCD with 1366 X 768 resolution and is connected to the Emachines desktop that has Nvidia GeForce 7050 integrated graphics. So far it looks very nice. It cost $99.
Thank you all! I need an all-around monitor (surfing, typing, movies, games etc.), Iām considering DELLās U2410, but itās quite pricyā¦

You really arenāt doing anything specialist so paying out for a Dell which generally is an over priced badge monitor. Samsungās are generally good monitors one with 5ns are more than up to gaming refresh rates, etc. and I would imagine much, much cheaper.

Walmart has a nice LG 22" model EW224T for only $158. Iād check it out if that size is big enough for you. Oh wait, youāre not in the US so it may not be an option. You probably could find the monitor somewhere though.
LG peripherals of any kind are generally quite reliable, and (here in Canada, anyway) are often the most widely and readily available brand. Iāve got their āFlatronā L1942T monitor (19") which has been quite handy for general purpose work and has a surprising number of options available on its built-in menu system, think it cost me around $200 or $250 4 or 5 years ago.
Itās a conventional 4x3 screen, but when I buy DVD movies I try for the widescreen versions anyway, simply because the āreformatted to fit your screenā full-screen versions chop off quite a bit at either side, and the black areas top and bottom donāt bother me.
OK, thank you all for your comments!

Youāre welcome, happy shopping.
I decided on Dellās new IPS monitor U2412M. Iāll get it tomorrow for 272 Euros. I have a question though (and donāt know where else to ask): Iāll connect this monitor to my laptop which has a HDMI out (monitor only has DVI in so I also bought a DVI-HDMI cable adaptor). Anyway, the question is: My laptop screen resolution is 1600x900 and my new monitorās resolution is 1920x1200. What would be the quickest and simplest way to change the resolution and wallpaper when connecting the external monitor (and vice-versa when I unplug it)? Is there any such application or a tool already built in Windows 7? Or do I have to do it manually each and every time?

Resolution changes, right click context menu and choose resolution or if you have hotkeys it is fn+f8 to change between laptop and monitor, is for me anyway.

I think that you could also set this up as a dual screen system, if your laptop graphics card/chip is powerful enough to handle it (given that the new monitor is 1920x1200), which it might not be. What is the laptop graphics card/chip (and does it have dedicated RAM or does it share system RAM) ?
You could try googling setup dual monitor on laptop and see what that returns. This is just one of the hits, http://www.ehow.com/how_5727567_set-laptop-display-multiple-monitors.html.
No, I would only like to use one monitor at a time. Iām looking for a program that would automatically (or with a single click) change my resolution and wallpaper when I connect the external monitor (and vice-versa when I disconnect it). I have a nVidia GeForce GT 425M video card which is capable of 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz.

Use the Windows Key and P (Presentation Mode)and select how you want to extend the display.

Thatās handy all that faffing about we used to have to do to run a second monitor. What surprised me was it is even an option on my little netbook with Win7 Starter Edition, when some of the graphics elements are blocked, Aero, etc.
I must see if I can hook up a monitor to it only has a VGA output though.
