New here so please be gentle.
OK, I encountered 1:07:50 AM “c:_RESTORE\ARCHIVE\FS128.CAB\A0133605.CPY [L] Win32:Trojan-gen {Other} (0)” during a scan last night. Avast 4.8 Home Edition is unable to move it to the ‘Chest’. I ran a search for it (A0133605.CPY) and found nothing! I did find a reference to A0133605.CPY at a Dutch or German web site. (_http://www.informationsarchiv.net/forum/topic27158.html_) Reference: 2005-10-01, 00:38:40, Could not set file for reading on “C:_RESTORE\TEMP\A0133605.CPY”: Zugriff wurde verweigert. Searches at: Norton nada, McAfee nada, AVG nada & Avast like wise! Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. TIA
This is a detection of something in the Computers’ system restore area, which is protected and encrypted.
It will only be a hazard if (1) it was a valid detection, as opposed to a false positive- which is more likely to be the case with a generic detection, and (2) you restore the computer to the point concerned.
Short story, it isn’t likely to be a problem.
Were you carrying out a thorough scan with archives enabled when this detection occurred?
It is advisable following a malware cleanup, or a detection in “system volume information” to clean out the restore points, but only when the computer is working correctly. (Reason should be obvious.) So if your computer is functioning correctly, turn off system restore on all drives, reboot, turn it back on. All restore points will be deleted; any malware gone with them. Create a new restore point. Should be all good.
Thanx for your help. To answer your question above, Standard scan with archives enabled! Nearly the same I would suppose. Did as you suggested and rescanned and came up clean. Thanx again.
