C0000135 %hs is missing error (UPDATE: FRST log posted)

I’ve been having the blue death screen issue with the error message from the subject line. Running an FRST scan seems to be standard procedure for this, so I attached mine below to get started.

Thanks for any guidance you guys can offer.

Regards,
Sam

EDIT: Seems my Android phone doesn’t want to cooperate with attaching the log. May have to wait until tomorrow to use someone else’s laptop. The error started after updating Avast, by the way.

welcome to the forum.

Did you get the blue screen of death when doing something special or did it just come up at random?
it could be anything from hardware error to malware. are you able to boot your computer normal?

Avast wanted me to run a boottime scan of the hard drive, that was when the blue screen appeared, after the scan tried to run and (I believe) cut off in the middle. The laptop won’t boot normally or into safe mode.

UPDATE: Here is the FRST log for the computer.

Smart move using FSRT ;D

This is a sirfef infection but it is utilising 3 drivers not the normal 1

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same USB as FSRT
Run from the WIndows CD (that is how I am assuming you ran it first)

Run FSRT then press Fix

Reboot to normal windows please and then run an OTL scan as per the malware initial post

Thanks for the quick response, essexboy! I’m at work now but I’ll run the fix in a couple hours when I get home. I actually ran FSRT (just saw my dyslexic spelling previously) via the startup repair/command prompt/notepad route – couldn’t find my Windows CD at the time.

As good a way as any, you must have the RC ready installed ;D Which is unusual

Okay, I ran the fix but upon reboot I only got the black screen with a blinking gray line on the upper left side. Not sure what that could mean…

Could you run a fresh FSRT scan for me please

For whatever reason, a second reboot attempt was successful. I’m now going through the rest of the malware removal process. Thanks again for the assistance!

You had zero access so there will probably be remnants to kill

Post the logs and I will check them out ;D
