I am a new user of Avast. Today’s scan under “Results of last scan” states the following: C:\Documents and Settings\my name\Local settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\S12VW9AJ\MP10Setup[1].exe\9SeriesD.wmz Then under “Result” says “unable to scan: CAB archive is corrupted”. Does anyone know what that means and what I should do about it?? Thanks
- Clear your internet cache, they are temporary files anyway.
- Don’t panic there is nothing to worry about as avast is simply reporting that it can’t scan a file not that it is infected and is reporting why it can’t be scanned.
- Files can become corrupt for many reasons, a crash whilst in use, a bad download where a part of the file wasn’t downloaded correctly or lost. So the file effectively can’t be opened or run, etc. so it can’t be scanned either.
Thanks, and thanks for the encouragement. I am not sure I know how to clear the internet cache. I just now cleared the temp internet files through the System Tools, disc cleanup. Is that good enough? I have Windows XP Home
Yes, it is the same.
To do this go to Internet explorer >Tools > Internet options > Delete files > Click delete all offline content (just to be sure) > click ok.
Sorry my fault calling it a cache, been using firefox too long ;D periodically clearing your temp folders (including the temoroary Internet Files) using the Disk Cleanup tool or one of the numerous tools is advisable if for no other reason in saving disk space.
ClearProg - Temp File Cleaner Or CCleaner - Temp File Cleaner, etc.
