I rely on Calorie-Counter.com (CC) to keep me on my health-mandated diet, but Avast calls it a trojan (probably because it’s so interactive and/or maintains personal records). I’ve tried excluding it from rejection, but it just doesn’t let it do its thing. If one or the other has to go, I must uninstall Avast, but I certainly don’t want to.
What does it call an infection ?
Full URL/path and file name please - Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast icon), Warning section, this contains information on all avast detections.
What is the full text of your exclusion ?
Where are you trying to exclude it ?
ok… I’ll try to access it and get that info for you.
It says:
Sign of ‘win32:adware-gen. [adw]’ has been found in ‘c:\program files\Calorie-Count.com toolbar\calorie-count.ddl’ file (It would have been nice if I could have cut and paste…)
I also got the ‘whoop, whoop, whoop’ alarm sound and the spinning warning popup. Same info.
It is a toolbar.
There are options to move/rename, delete, or move to chest. No option to ignore.
Continue or ok are the buttons.
This link is a tutorial on how to help correct a virus detection that you believe to be false:

As a workaround, you can add these files to the Standard Shield provider (on-access scanning) exclusion list.
Left click the ‘a’ blue icon, click on the provider icon at left and then Customize. Go to Advanced tab and click on Add button…
You can use wildcards like * and ?. But be carefull, you should ‘exclude’ that many files that let your system in danger.
I’m sure you mean calorie-count.dll (not .ddl).
You could also check the offending/suspect file at: VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner I feel virustotal is the better option as it uses the windows version of avast (more packers supported) and there are currently 30 different scanners.
Or Jotti - Multi engine on-line virus scanner if any other scanners here detect them it is less likely to be a false positive. Whichever scanner you use, you can’t do this with the file in the chest, you will need to move it out.
If it is indeed a false positive, add it to the exclusions lists as tech mantions and submit the sample to avast.
