camera check

Just received a warning from AVAST that my camera is exposed to hackers. So i figured - hey, why not see what they would see.
The result is what you see attached, since i’ve already covered my laptop camera with black opaque electrical tape (few years ago, actually), so the pitch black rectangle is in fact what one could see through my camera.
Whenever i want to make a video call, i connect a more up to date USB camera that i’ll only keep connected as long as the call lasts. However, just because a camera is fairly easily accessible, it shouldn’t mean that hackers can really see anything. A quick image analysis would reveal the true vulnerability of my webcam. Maybe this module should be included in a default risk assessment platform.

Put a piece of tape over it.

That’s an ad.

Yes and disappointedly from Avast, for to do this it would have to actually use your camera.

For my thinking improperly using your camera, to try and sell you webcam protection, now whose the peeping tom ?

I don’t have a webcam on this desktop monitor and I have post-it arrow over the one on my laptop.

Personally for someone to hack your camera, surely they would have to have hacked into your system. Now what was Avast’s Web Shield, File System Shield, Behaviour Shield, Intrusion Detection doing at that time, sleeping on duty ?
