As some of you all may remember, I had acquired a Dell GX270 and it was going to become my new faster, more powerful main computer to replace my old, slow, underpowered HP Pavilion 6730. Well, at this point, that Dell appears to now be history.
For the last 6 weeks or so, I had been lending it to my sister and her husband because their computer was in repair.
My brother-in-law’s idiot, irresponsible, nitwit, scumball daughter (who doesn’t live there) got her scummy hands on it and now my Dell is a paperweight. The scumballette CLAIMS she was only recharging her i-Pod. But, I know better. I’m virtually certain she was downloading music illegally off the Net. She’s done it before and was ready to teach my niece how to do it in recent times. I told my niece and my sister that under no circumstances was any of that to go on with my Dell because not only is it illegal, but it would get my Dell infected.
Yadi Yadi Yada … I got the call that – Oh, BTW, the computer is not working.
Allegedly supposedly the Wireless Mouse and Wireless Keyboard stopped working first.
Then when they tried new batteries, after Rebooting, the computer now had NO VIDEO whatsoever.
I’ve checked it out. The Dell has Power, but that’s about it.
No Hard Drive activity. Will not remotely attempt to read CDs, so I can’t perform a Windows Reinstall.
It won’t remotely Boot Up whatsoever, so I can’t get into Safe Mode.
So, QUESTION:CAN a Virus actually 100% neutralize a computer to the point of not Booting Up at all and not being able to read CDs?
Otherwise, how can that idiot nitwit have destroyed my Dell by allegedly only plugging in her i-Pod to recharge it?
Like I said, I’m sure she was doing more than just that.
This sounds more like a hardware problem than a virus or software issue.
You’ll probably need to take it into the shop or, if it’s still under warranty, call Dell.
The OS is Windows XP Professional – 32 Bit.
And no, they didn’t try to do any troubleshooting themselves. They’re not remotely that knowledgeable.
They pretty much got in contact with me right after the computer had gone on the blink.
I’m tending to agree with Bob that the problem is probably Hardware-related.
I’ll never know the real sequence of events that led up to the problem because that woman is a world class liar.
It’s almost looking like she SOMEHOW hosed the USB Ports circuitry and in whatever way it got hosed, it’s preventing the computer from Booting Up.
Question:
Is EVERY type / brand of Laser (Optical) Mouse supposed to light up in Red there at the bottom when connected and working properly?
Because I noticed that the Laser Mouse that was subsequently connected to that Dell after the Wireless Mouse didn’t want to work … was NOT lighting up in Red when connected and the computer was Powered Up. That’s why I’m thinking the USB Ports circuitry got hosed.
Optical mice (well all those I have used) do have a red light underneath… Methinks it may actually be a motherboard if not even the disc is taking a load
The Mouse in question over here is an HP Laser Mouse.
I know I’ve used it on my HP Pavilion and on that Dell and it worked before.
I just can’t remember at all whether it did or didn’t light up in Red at the bottom.
I concur with you, Bob. While I cannot figure out what she did wrong, something obviously went seriously wrong when she plugged in her i-Pod to the USB Port or in the using of it and fried the USB Port circuitry.
By now I do pretty much have it written down as the Motherboard screwed up in one way or another.
I’ll be seeing my sister on Sunday. We’ll no doubt talk about this.
They’ll probably offer to get my Dell repaired.
I’m going to suggest to them that instead, have them get me a Refurbished computer. That’ll be cheaper. Especially given that with the computer being out of warranty … replacing the Motherboard will require a NEW Windows License. :o
iroc9555 … It has no beeps.
The Power Button does light up in Green as it should.
The Fans work.
The Hard Drive Activity LED blinks only ONCE at Power Up and then no more activity.
I THINK I CAN hear the DVD Drive running when I stick a CD in there, but it has zero semblance of it being attempted to be read.
I’m gonna go hook it up again and look into those Diagnostics with those LEDs to which you provided the link.
It’d be great if that yielded some Good News. But, I’m not holding my breath.
I’ll be back later with the results of that.
Grrrrrrrrrr! Wouldn’t you know it.
The Diagnostics LED configuration that I am seeing … is NOT on the list provided in that link.
I am getting:
A–Green
B–Yellow
C–Green
D–Green
And that is not on that list in the link.
It still amounts to destroyed by a nitwit who had no business or permission touching that Dell, much less plugging anything into it. >:(
Oh well. No need to waste anymore time with this paperweight / doorstop.
