Can ADNM look to a specific location for definition updates instead of the Inet?

Hi,
I’m hoping someone can assist me. In our shipping company some of our vessels do not have an internet connection (I know…WOW!) but its true. Anyways…The ships have one server and approx 7 - 10 workstations. Currently, what we normally have to do to apply updates or install apps is physically go to the ship and manually update the server & each workstation (very time consuming). What we would like to do is:

• have ADNM push the avast to the workstations (this works without any problems in our lab environment)
• have the update placed in a specific location on the server (whether CD or directory)
• have ADNM look to that specific location for the update instead of the internet and then push it throughout the ship’s network.

Is that possible?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

nice quote from a good (in my opinion) movie!

your request has passed by in these forums in the while of time now and unfortunately its not possible the way you want it.

You could try this (assuming you done have a domain on the ship, just a workgroup installation):
make a VM and install ADNM on a site with (fast) internet.
bring the vm to the ship and do your thing with deploying (on IP level, if you have a domain on the ship join the domain first)
bring back the vm to the office again and update it when the ship is back and bring it to the ship and do your thing again with updating the ships computers

I love that movie…must’ve watched it 5 times…I’m trying to get my buddies to call me Jaguar Paw, but nobody is taking me seriously… lol

Thank you for the reply! I will get with my team members and discuss your suggestion. If we end up going that route or come up with something different, I will definitely post our results. Thank you again!

if your the leader of a team then you can order them  lol

i hope it works and ill hear what happens

You can try something like this (we use this method to install new customers in few minutes without downloading mirror from Internet).

  • Install ADNM on a laptop and update the mirror.
  • Install ADNM on the ships servers but when you made the installation you have to choose to create mirror from another IP (laptop) not from Internet.
  • When you want to update avast! in the ships, you must to update the laptop in the office first ant then connect the laptop in the ship network with the same IP that the first time (installation).

You use the laptop ADNM as Internet update.

@edj basicly the same setup as mine except mine is more complex and makes us (administrators) look like we know what we are doing

your way is easy to do

First, thanks for the replies and the idea. I tested & retested the VM idea…and (drum roll) …it is works GREAT! I had bumps and bruises here and there but got it running. Basically, I created 2 VMs. 1 is the main AMS and the other is the 2nd level. The 2nd level is running on the ship at all times. When its time for an update we’ll send the VM image of the main AMS to ship…(although we have no internet, we’re able to perform Remote Access) but anyways…we remote access the ship…load the main VM…run the mirror.exe on the 2nd level…it looks to main…pulls the update and then teh 2nd level does its thing for the rest of network.

I really appreciate the assistance!

your welcome

i hope it will do all that you need

hopefully this setup will also work with the V5 version that is coming somewhere this year (hopefully)
