Can anyone tell me what Avast won't run? pic

I get this error and it simply won’t start.

I have never seen that before, looks like some sort of corruption, with either the skinning software or the skin you are set to use as your selected skin. I would have suggested changing skin or changing to skinless but if avast isn’t starting at all that option probably isn’t available.

Now I don’t know if booting into safe mode and starting avast from the desktop icon would even work as that too uses skins I believe, so no way into the Program Settings, to change anything.

You might be best to do a clean reinstall.
Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.

Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD.

  1. Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.
  2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, reboot. If step 1 failed it may be necessary to run this from safe mode, once complete reboot into normal mode.
  3. install the latest version, reboot.
