Can avast 2014 block Cryptolocker Ransomware virus

HI was wondering just for informal purposes only I was just wondering will avast 2014 block a virus called crypto Locker virus. The reason I ask is because I have heard lots of things about cryptolocker and how it can get past antivirus software sometimes and I was just curious if avast 2014 would manage to block Cryptolocker from getting onto my system in the first place.

The other reason I would like to now this is because Cryptolocker will encrypt documents on your computer and photos and also any files on network drives and storage devices.

I should mention that I am not infected with this virus I am just wanting some information that is all.

but the problem is that the bad guys dont rest, when detected they release new versions :-\ as they do with all malware they create, or they come up with a new trick
so this is a never ending arms race
