Recently changed from Commodo Antivirus to Avast Free Home Antivirus. Uninstalled the first and installed the second. After installation, rebooted and can connect to internet but can’t surf. If I go into FF, it opens. But if I search for something in Goggle, FF says it’s “connecting” in upper left and “waiting for Goggle” in lower left. And there it sits. If I disable Avast, I can connect and surf. Must be an Avast issue. How can I fix this??? Thanks in advance.

What is your firewall ?
Does it allow ashWebSv.exe internet access ?
- If it does delete the entry for it and reconnect to the internet, this should force the firewall to ask permission again.
Firewall is PCTools free firewall.
Will check ashWebSv.exe.

Also ensure that you have the latest version of the PC Tools Firewall as older versions did have a problem with avast updates also.
I stopped using PC Tools personal firewall plus in my windows 7 SP1 computer since you can´t browse with it… try private firewall instead if you’re using Windows 7 SP1 and see the difference…rm
Have PCTools Firewall Plus. Have latest version. Not seeing ashWebsv.exe. Am seeing avast! Antivirus, avast! Service, and Avast Software Setup Engine.

Sorry, that was a bad cut and paste (from older avast version) it should be avastSvc.exe as you found.
Don’t see AvastSvc in the firewall. Also, using Windows 7, 64 bit.

Oopps. Avast Svc.exe was on the allowed applications list as Avast Service. Deleted it from the allowed applications, reconnected to internet, and did NOT get a prompt from the the PCTools Firewall Plus to allow it. Next step???
RB
Well is it actually allowing it rather than just listing it (you may need to reboot to have PC Tools remove the entry from memory) ?
If not you could try manually adding the full path to it C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\AvastSvc.exe
When I go into PC Tools Firewall Plus, click on Applications, go to Avast Service, and Remove Program, it won’t delete. It will disappear for a minute but if you refresh it reappears. First time I triesd it, it did delete but rebooted and did not get prompt to allow. This is getting frustrating. No internet connection for this computer for 48 hours.
You can close this thread. Solution was to uninstall Avast and install PC Tools Antivirus. No conflict between firewall and antivirus given both are PC Tools and now have access to internet.

rb3bm4, threads aren’t closed (generally).
Can you change the title of the first message to [Solved]…
Thanks.
