Can free edition be installed by students in class??

Hi there, this may seem like a strange question but under the license agreement for the free edition of the software, it states that the software can be installed by anyone on their home pc who do not use this pc for profit making.

I am currently teaching a class about installing and maintaining software and i wish to demonstarte to them installing anti-virus software. It is impossible for us to get paid for software so we rely on freeware, shareware and open source software where we can.

Can anyone tell me for certain can we install this software for use in a secluded room, that is a room that is not part of the normal college network, on individual pc,s that will only have the software running in virtual pc so will not be accessed by any other users?

Thanks

Marion

Marion, I’m not sure, as I’m not from Alwil team, but just an avast user. But for what I’ve read in forums, this won’t be available as it’s not a home use. Alwil team could confirm, or you could send an email to sales (at) avast.com and ask for special conditions (discounts, etc.).
Welcome to avast forums.

So, do I understand it correctly that you won’t be actually using avast! at school (to protect the computers for real), but just demonstrating the installation, functions of the program… teaching what the program does, how to use it, etc.?
If yes, I certainly don’t see any problem about it.

No we wouldnt be “using” it for real, it would installed in a virtual pc environment and we will connect and update the database files to demonstrate how the virus program works and keeps itself current but at the end of the class the virtual machine will be wiped so i’m fairly certain we wouldnt be seen as breaking the license agreement as such?

thanks for the replies.

Well if it’s like this, why not use the trial version of avast! Professional Edition?
I mean, this works for 60 days (I suppose that’s much longer than you actually need) and has no restrictions.

Thanks

Nothing better than use it to show avast is full power… 8)
