Can I close down Avst while I try another AV Scanner

Hi

For some reason I thought Id try another AV scanner, but I dont want to uninstall Avast only disable it so it wont run at all, or, in the background.

How do I do it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Grandpaj

The only thing that needs to be disable will be the “Stardard Shield”, the other one’s can be on. Just right click on the “a” ball on your toolbar and click “Pause provider”, and choose “Stardard Shield”.

Simply put, to avoid any issues between products, just uninstall avast! and then install the other product.

I doubt you would be doing this unless the other product is a free trial. When you have evaluated the other product you won’t be coming back unless (I’m sure) you find avast! the better product.

In that case make sure you have removed all of the other product before you return to install the tried and tested avast!

If its just a “one off check” youre looking for then an online scan is probably more suitable than installing more than one resident on your PC.
Most of the popular programs offer this service. see toward the bottom of the page here http://spyros.atspace.com/security.html and dont forget to disable on-access protection first.
good luck

Yea, online access scanners are good backups. They’s no need to install another resident antivirus scanners. Have Avast!, and then use the online scanners as backups.

Yes, pretty must. Unless the other antivirus does not have a resident protection, then its pretty safe to keep Avast! on.

Hi Guys,

Your right, I love Avast, but have Zone Alarm Security Suite already paid for. So thought I might as well install and run it. I was hoping to also run Avast at the same time or, turn off the AV in ZASS.
I have terminated the “Standard Sheild”

Any comments (constructive)

Many thanks

Grandpaj

You dont want to run both of them together. As long as one antivirus is running, then you be fine. You will need to choose one, really. If you choose to go with Avast!, cant you ask for a refund for ZASS?, since you pay for it, they should give you a refund if you dont want it.

With rare exceptions, if only one of the products (ideally, of course, avast) is resident and you’re just doing an on-demand scan with the other then there shouldn’t be a problem.

If you’ve quite recently done an avast scan and it’s happy that you’re clean, it’s not a bad idea to pause the Standard shield anyway while scanning with something else, even one for spyware. That way the other scan will run a little faster, since it and Standard shield won’t have to “take turns” reading the same files as they’re opened by the other product.

And of course don’t forget to Resume the Standard shield when you’re done.

I have tested ZA Security Suite with Bit Defender Standard and ZA Security Suite with avast Pro. When you disable the ZA’s AntiVirus it does not conflicts with the residents of the Bit Defender or avast.

Why you don’t just consider Zone Alarm Pro.
The only difference is that Pro beside Antivirus Protection it does not have the IM Security/Parental Controls, Anti-Phishing & Spam Blocker. Do you really need those features?

Hi

Thanks for that.

However I believe that the Pro version of ZA doesn’t have Antispyware.
I guess a good combo would (if pos) ZA firewall+Antispyware with Avast.

Cheers

Grandpaj

Zone Alarm Pro Does have Antispyware included at least my version does
However this is not the best Antispyware program ever.
I also use Ad-Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy (probably the best free one)
SpywareBlaster all very good Antispyware programs and Free to boot

Hi grandpaj,

But ZA Pro does have the AntiSpyware!

So ZA Pro+Avast= 8)

If you exchange ZA Security Suite for ZA Pro I belive that you can save 20$ (Plus you get rid of
unwanted features+they pay you) ;D

Hi tednelly

Sorry, My apologies. I think with ZAP + Avast ( all shields operating) + Ewido + Spybot + Adware + FF & TB1.5

Spyblaster+ Spyguard + CW Shredder, should be looking good.

Many thanks

Grandpaj

Very good choices grandpaj they all help to keep my system pretty clean
I’m sure they’ll do the same on yours
happy pe-uting
