Can I delete the contents of the .log-files an report-files "little by little"?

Hello,

hope, anybody has an answer to my question:

Can I delete the contents of the .log-files and report-files little by little, so that I can prevent, that they grow up more and more?

Or can I delete them completly, so that avast! build them new after a reboot of the pc?

I want to rescue the free space of my harddisc!

Or doesn’t avast! work not any longer when I do this?

Thanks for your answers,
kind regards

Not without disabling the self-defence module in Settings Troubleshooting.

Personally I would suggest restricting log file size in Settings, Maintenance, Auto cleanup and lower the days and in Logs, reduce the file size, see image of my settings. This doesn’t apply to the setup.log file as that is useful as a debugging source.

If you are considering this measure to save hard disk space you are in real trouble as these text files aren’t massive. System Restore (system volume information folders, one on each partition) is probably a candidate to go on a diet as by default it can use up to 12% of your hard disk space.

Thank you for the explanation, David!

You’re welcome, though your earlier point about some of the log files may be needed by avast rather than just being log files to provide useful user information.

OK David, I understand.

I think it’s better to let avast! do its job without trouble, isn’t it?
No risc, no but fun! ;D

Do you agree?

I mean: “Sometimes a little bit less is a little bit more!” (we say in Germany).

Yes, less can be more, but in the days of monster hard disks (that isn’t such an issue) what had to be done many years ago when hard disks were much smaller you had to be keeping things in check.

Thank you for your help, David!
