I have a VAIO desktop which I usually use on the Internet. But I also have a laptop (Toshiba Satellite) which is very seldom connected to the Internet. (I am dialup).
But sometimes I do have to connect the laptop to the Internet for some reason or another, and I am concerned that it might be hit by a new virus/variation before avast! updates. (Sometimes I just plain forget).
Can I download “updates” onto my main machine (VAIO) and transfer them via a USB flash-drive (etc) to the Laptop? -I do use it often – but usually unconnected.
Yes you can. Just download the stand-alone update from avast’s website and use it
It is under downloads > updates
Incremental updates: iAVS is a fast, small, incremental and fully automated update via the Internet. Updates are released at least twice a week.
The latest iAVS update was published on: 17.8.2006, version: 0633-3
No reinstallation of the program is needed for virus database updates!
If you are connected to the Internet, updates are downloaded and installed automatically without any need for user action. The presence of a new version on our servers is checked when the Internet connection is established, and every four hours afterwards. Please download the following file only if you really need it (e.g. if your computer does not have any Internet connection).
