German police officials have expressed interest in developing software tools to help them surveil computer users who may be involved in crime
The key words being ‘who may be involved in crime.’ That type of surveillance should be tightly controlled by the courts in the same way as phone taping.
There should be no way were security software should be modified to allow this trojan free passage, that would simply drive a coach and horses through security as like the ‘Sony’ rootkit, black hats jumped on-board and exploited the vulnerability. The same could possibly happen here.
