Can NAV steal files upon uninstall?

After several issues with norton 2005 AV and their non-support I decided to remove it from both my Desk and laptop PC’s.
Almost immediately I discovered that I had lost pieces of my browser, my internal search capability as well as Automatic restore and recovery disc run ability on BOTH OF THEM!
With help from my laptop manufacturer I restored it but my desktop is a zombie. Of, course Symantec won’t respond to my inquiries.
HELP!
Could it have zonked my registry?

By the way, I installed avast! on my laptop and it does well.

There might be pieces of norton still on your system, Go here: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/sharedtech.nsf/docid/2006031710323113?Open&docid=2005033108162039&nsf=tsgeninfo.nsf&view=docid

And follow all the directions and see if that helps.

Thanks for the info however… I tried to download the cleanup and encountered a denial of service; have been denied access to Microsoft, Symantec, system resore and search. There is no virus though so I am slightly lucky.
It’s just Norton. Again.

A removal tool for such a number of NAV is SymNRT.

If you search the board you’ll find a lot of info about NAV uninstalling
