Can not re-register after upgrade to Version 5.0

Hello,

My registration expires at the end of the month and when I clicked to renew it I was taken to the download page for Version 5.0. Version 5.0 was downloaded and installed successfully. I got a new registration code but when I follow the instructions for version 5.0 there are options missing from the registration dialog (Jpeg attached). Do I have to wait until the old registration expires before I can enter the new one?

Regards Eric

Will this help?

avast! 5.x: Inserting the license key into avast! Free Antivirus

Normally in 4.8 you started to get reminders from 21 days out to re-register, so I would have thought there would have been something similar in 5.0; though in your case you are already inside that 21 days, so I don’t know if there is a lower reminder period or not

No, I tried to follow that before posting but like the jpg shows I do not have a register button and there is no offline registration. It is like the dialog is incomplete. I get the same dialog both on a workstation with Windows Vista and a laptop with Windows 7.

I do not get any registration warnings anymore after upgrading to 5.0. I would hate to wait until the program stops working on March 1st to enter the new registration code.

I don’t believe that will happen, e.g. stop working, but updates may stop. However, when and if that happens I would have thought that you would have an Unsecured (poor choice of word) indication and pointing to Registration.

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. See if that makes any difference.

Hello,

I fixed the problem on one computer by uninstalling 5.0 and installing again to get the 30 day install license. Then the dialogs appeared like in the help link.

I did not get to the other computer for a couple of days and that computer started to display expiration notices again. I was able to enter the registration code in the dialog.

So problem solved. It appears the expiration warning time was shorted by a couple of weeks from 4.8 to 5.0. I guess other people waited longer before trying to renew registration.

Regards Eric

OK, thanks for the feedback.

the best way is uninstall your avast and install it again
