I’m getting caught into a loop I can not get out off. I’m being informed my license for Avast FREE has expired. I got this message a week ago. So I downloaded the latest version 19.8.2393 and installed it.
And registered it. Or at least I thought I did. As a few days later I got the message “Your Avast Free Antivirus license is no longer valid”.
I think that the Universal Code is related to old versions of avast that otherwise couldn’t register, if memory serves me well.
Also have you rebooted since trying to enter this universal license ?
Normally the user interface would change to facility the Activation of the free version license.
I don’t see it in your first image.
What happens if you right click on the Avast tray icon and click ‘Registration information’ it may have a route there to Activate there. I have a long time for mine to go yet so I can’t show exactly what you would see. There should be a down arrow to the rigt of the registration information, click that and see what it reveals.
I tried several times after rebooting. I even shutdown the firewall on my router as well. Still no go. I’ve been using AVAST free for quite a few years and nothing like this before.
Downloaded “avastclear.exe” and ran it. The rebooted into SafeMode and ran the app and selected to uninstall Avast 64bit version (running Windows 10 Home 64 bit)
Rebooted and downloaded AvastFree from the link. I then registered via the Tray Icon.
It did NOT resolve my issue. I am having the same problem.
I gave it some time and decided to recheck. Avast is still reporting that it is no longer valid and requires reactivation.
Is there a resolution to this issue?
Then how do I register the product? That’s what I’ve been trying to do. I’ve followed all the instructions I could find and the replies in this thread?
I’m still getting popups that Avast has expired and I must re-activate.
How do I re-activate when there seems to be a bug in the Avast software or a flaw in the activation process?
I’ve disabled the firewall on my router and disabled the firewall on my computer BUT I still encounter the same problem.
After a period of time ten or twelve days I believe it should extend it automatically. However given what has been going on and your user interface doesn’t appear to be correct (as outlined in my image in Reply #2).
Why it still isn’t working after a clean reinstall is somewhat strange. I have been using avast free for over 15 years when registration was (and now not supposedly) required and I haven’t experienced this issue.
Personally for something that supposedly doesn’t require registration, this whole function is a bit of a dog’s breakfast.
I have to wonder if it isn’t a means of promoting the paid version of avast in the hope a user will switch to the paid version. When users have problems with registration, I would think the last thing on their mind is getting the paid version of avast, perhaps more likely to switch AV completely.
