Can`t get updates

for the last month or so ive not been able to get the latest windows updates every time i try i get a message saying:Security Update for Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP (KB936782) Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.0 Service Pack 3 (KB930494) Update for Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP (KB939683) Security Update for Windows XP (KB933729)not able to update. ive also tried going to the windows site to get them with the same problem.The reason i`am looking for answers here is a friend just started using Avast Home and right away she got the same problem. we have both got that little yellow shield on our tool bar all the time. any suggestions.

avast shouldn’t block or mess any windows update.
I have it on XP SP2 and the update was applied.
Some other thing seems to be messing. Is there any error info on Windows Update page?
Are you using a firewall? Which one?

not getting any error info and i`am just using the windows firewall.

When the update fails, Microsoft shows a link to further info page. That is how Windows Update works… it should be there.
Seem a problem about Microsoft and not related to other software, so we need to dig into Microsoft Knowledge Database.
