Can;t update programs for home edition avast! 4.5

Program update is not able to. But VDRB is ok. Please help!
I am using zonealarm and already enable avast! access

Remove ZA and try again.

If this doesn’t solve the problem, reinstall ZA. Disable Avast and upgrade to 4.5.536

What firewall are you using and, does avast! have full permission???

There is no need to open any port in the firewall at all.

Yes there is Alex GD,

if you close all ports in the firewall it will never work, so the correct port must be opened.

Although I don’t think this is an avast problem as a lot of users (all of them…) could update, can you download the last 4.5.542 version, install it (do not need to uninstall the previous version) and see if it fixes your update problem? :-\

Thanks for all of yr prompt reply! i actually shutdown zonealarm and try updating the program for avast! But in vain. So do i nd to uninstall avast! and reinstall again or just click the website you have given? Which is more impt to update? The VDRB or the program update?

Might be way off base, try emptying your browser cache and other “temp folders” reboot and try a forced update.

My laptop is brand new. I dun think my cache is that full :wink:

Just for further info, what make and what os was pre-installed?

The program (and virus database) is more important than the VRDB in my opinion.
If they are updated you won’t get infected and, then, the VRDB (virus recovery database) won’t be used to clean the infection 8)

Hi i tried all still in vain. Does avast! has uninstallling components? Maybe i can try reinstalling it

Anyway, after running beta.exe it tries to connect to server to download package. Still can’t download

You can try to repair your installation:
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).

If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?
