Can you please stop installing Chrome on XP-PCs with AthlonXP!

Google announces with thick letters in Chrome that they soon no longer support and update Chrome for PCs with AthlonXP running WinXP. So it does not make sense to install an outdated and no longer supported software.

Btw: yes we know that Avast get’s some royalties from google for installing Chrome; but that should be secondary here. It’s not the point to not to begrudge Avast the support from the side of google; it’s just some contradiction in terms if avast (that is keeping the users safe) distributes some no longer supported software making the contrary of that Avast propagates.

Thank you

Use a custom install. Select what you want installed. Make program updates manual, not auto.

Custom install and reading what you click when you install would have done the trick.

You could also check the avastUI > Settings > Troubleshooting - ‘Do not use Chrome as avast! default browser’ option. This stops links in the avast user interface, looking for/trying to open Chrome.

There are some that feel this also stops avast trying to install chrome as a result of program updates; but you should as suggested use a custom install/update and uncheck any chrome options.

I’ve always wanted to comment on this! XD

what kind of security software recommends a browser as unsafe as chrome. XDD

I mean, I may as well write an HTML/JS parser,
allow it full access to your PC,
support applications and extensions to run fully unlimited,
give it an option to at least disable cookies, JS, and extensions, but yet allow them by default,
and call it chrome.

chrome is the most unsecure browser I know of, and with the fact it’s killed my PC twice, I’m never using the thing again.

you can look at my last browser ID now, and it’ll say it’s chrome, but it’s not…
I now use the most secure browser I know of called Dragon.

don’t mean to boast really, but this browser uses a DNS aimed at keeping your compy safe, and comes with built-in malware protection.
not only that, it validates 3rd-party sites from sites you’ve allowed (cookies and JS),
and even has a virtual mode to run in it’s own VM.

I’ve heard recently FF does sandboxing, but I’m not one to trust the limited security on it…
(I’m one for more security options so I know what’s going on)

sorry about the rant…
I’m fed up with this nonsensical crap about unsafe browsers claiming to be safe.
I’m here to verify that Comodo Dragon is one of the safest browsers you can use.

and Dragon browser is ? … Oh that’s right, it’s Chromium dressed up.
