If one downloads the avast! 8 installer from the avast! website, and installs avast! 8 over avast! 7, is that a recommendable means of updating the software, or is it encouraged that one utilize the in-avast! interface program update?

and probably that way you’d also improve your chances of being able to uncheck any unwanted third party software or toolbar (i.e. Google’s stuff).
Is it recommended to update via this fashion in safe mode?
No. Avast! desings his installer in such a way that you can upgrade fron inside the program automatically ( when alerted to ) or if you want right click Avast! icon on taskbar > Update > Program.
Thanks. I ask because i want to update, but without installing the Browser Cleaner or Software Updater, and activating them by default.
