I have avast internet security version 7.0.1451
Ever since I updated, I noticed two issues. One is under maintenance and then update. When I click update engine and virus definitions, there used to be a cancel button incase my computer got hung up on a loop. There is no more cancel button. The second problem is web rep. It doesn’t seem to work when I do a google search anymore. Maybe my update didn’t go through all the way. It’s happened before and I was missing tabs. Is anyone having these issues or can someone post an image of what the avast screen should look like.
Please try an Avast Repair:
XP Users:
- Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > Avast Antivirus.
- Scroll down and choose Repair function in the pop-up window.
- Reboot.
Vista & Win7 Users:
- Control Panel
- Programs & Features
- Uninstall a Program > Select Avast Antivirus
- Click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair
- Click Next and follow.
- Reboot.
Let us know if this fixes the problem. Thank you.
@s.h.: the cancel button is removed in this new version because it serves no functionality even in the previous version (it was posted by one of the developers that even if u clicked cancel previously, the update will still continue into completion anyway)
for the web rep, i believe it is a server side problem unless someone else can show me that theirs is working currently.
edit: for official statement on the ‘cancel’ button: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=99540.msg794210#msg794210, refer to pk’s reply.
I would still like the OP to try the Avast Repair to try and resolve the update problem. But yes, some users are having problems with the WebRep in the new version.
@ s.h.
What is your OS?
Do you or did you in the past have any other security software on this machine (AV, firewall, trial versions, other security software)? If so, how did you remove them - vendor’s uninstaller tool or another way?
Thanks for the link.
I have win xp sp3 with propel accelerator. I have FF 13 which is my primary browser. I also have IE 8. About 8 months ago, I uninstalled malwarebytes and ccleaner. Ccleaner had actually deleted a file from avast so I had to do a clean installation of avast. I used to have Mcafee about three years ago but uninstalled it and used their removal tool. I’ve used Avast for the last three years.
As far as the updating thing, avast updates like it should. It only hangs up when I try to do a manual update while it is doing an automatic update. And once awhile it will hang up when I’m downloading program versions because I’m still on dial up. Should I still try the avast repair? I noticed when I do a google search, the web rep will work next to the address bar, just not the searches themselves.
Web rep suddenly started working again. I have no idea why. I didn’t do anything. And it wasn’t working an hour ago. And avast hasn’t done any updates in that time. Should I still try to do an Avast repair, just in case?
I remember when the new version was in Beta avast told me they removed the cancel button in update…
This is normal, so I wouldn’t worry about it. No, you do not need to do a repair.
Regarding WebRep, some have reported that it was working earlier, then it stopped and restarted…so I think it is an intermittent problem that they are working on.
late yesterday, it (web rep) worked for a few mins before going offline. today it is online as of now.
edit 1: its offline again
