Cannot abort/ cancel scheduled boot-time scan

Hello, I have scheduled a boot-time scan for the folder C:/System Volume Information. However, it did not start scanning, instead dots(.) started loading and it filled the screen. Currently I am not able to stop the scan using ESC, CTRL ALT DEL and when I tried to restart the computer it would start the process again.

Does F8/boot into safe mode produce the same result?

In XP, if you press F8 when starting Windows and select ‘Last known good configuration’ from the boot menu, the boot scan should not be started.
Are you using an USB Keyboard?
