Cannot access AVAST webpage!

My computer denies to open any Avast webpage.
Have tried with Firefox (normally in use) and I-explorer.
My PC loads any other page but no avast one (!!!)
Please what can I do?, Have tried to clear any rest of the previous antivirus (AVG) with no positive result.
Have used and registered Avast 4. After nearly 2 months with my PC off (had to change monitor), an Avast window appears now each time I turn on the PC asking to newly register, but I can do nothing about it: there’s no way to the Avast page.
Please HELP! ???

(Of course am using now my netbook, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to reach this Forum :-[ )

Note.- My PC is ‘ASUS’, Pentium IV, 80GB ROM, 1,5GB RAM

Use your netbook to register the copy of avast for the other computer. Write down the license number that you can add in the troublesome computer.
Do you use any firewall?
Can you open the hosts file with Notepad and search if there is any mention to avast there? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_file#Location_and_content

First thanks for your prompt answer, Tech.

Have gone to the link you gave, but understood very little ( :-[ ).
The server I use to get in internet cannot have blocked my PC access to the Avast page, because, I am using the same server with this netbook. The only difference is that my PC uses a direct (cable) connection with the modem. And I use Avast with my netbook without problems. Anyway, (on the link) they don’t mention Avast being blocked.
Have taken a look at regedit.exe, but I find myself a bit lost there. :-[
Any other suggestion, please?
And if I reload the OS? (Win XP; 2002)

Thank you in advance  for your help.

PS. Have no firewall at all on.

Kary, better will be discussing this on General forum and not on the Server one.
Anyway, which is your Windows? XP, Vista, 7?

XP 2002, sp2.
The new monitor is for win vista, but I did’nt need to use the driver.

Open Notepad.
Open C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\ and then the file Hosts (without any extension).
It should be only:

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
::1  localhost
127.0.0.1 localhost

This should be discussed in avast! 4.x Home/Pro:
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2.0

Windows XP Service Pack 3 has been available for over a year and a half plus it provides many Critical Updates and performance improvements.

You need to start Internet Explorer then go to Tools then Windows Update and download all of the available updates.

Go to Control Panel then Automatic Updates then select Automatic (recommended) or at least Notify me but don’t automatically download or install them.

Go to Secunia Online Software Inspector then run it to see what applications are vulnerable:

Thanks for the help YoKenny.

Seems i have a virus in my PC.
Cannot load Microsoft pages now, nor any other antivirus scanner online.
The link you gave me couldn’t scan my PC and said maybe my Java applet was not installed.

Please HELP!!!

To ensure that I get all the information this log will need to be attached (instructions at the end) if it is to large to attach then upload to Mediafire and post the sharing link. If necessary this file can be renamed to OTS.COM

Download OTS to your Desktop

[*]Close ALL OTHER PROGRAMS.
[*]Double-click on OTS.exe to start the program.
[*]Check the box that says Scan All Users
[*]Under Additional Scans check the following:
[*]Reg - Shell Spawning

[*]Evnt - EvtViewer (last 10)
[*]Under the Custom Scan box paste this in

[*]Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
[*]Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
[*]When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
[*]Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.

Please attach the log in your next post.

Ok Essexboy, have uploaded the log as you said to Mediafire.

The link is: http://www.mediafire.com/?gmizdnnhziw

Thanks in advance for what you can do.

PS. Have cleared the file after 1 download.
Will try to post it here.

OK I will wait ;D

I have it already in my mail. To attach it here I have to download it to my netbook… :-
Is there any infection probable when I pass it through my netbook? :-[

I was afraid to leave the file in Mediafire. I noticed someone (could not see who) had dowloaded it.
Thought it was you…

Anyway will upload it to Mediafire in this moment and put it under a password (have seen it’s possible).
Then ill give you the password here, ok? (hope it functions).

Will remain online here.

(Tks for your patience).

Nope it is a text only file file which I will need to parse before it makes any sense

Ok, am in Mediafire with my PC. Have uploaded it there and the passw. is:

marge3,3

Could I have the link as well ;D

Yes, sorry ::slight_smile:

There goes:

http://www.mediafire.com/?vlnnnnkyxzm

OK that password does not work for me ? But looking at the size you should be able to attach it to a post

OK, there goes the other way…

Got it - it looks like one of the new redirect dll’s that is in a locked file. After this run re-try the Avast site and let me know the result

Start OTS. Copy/Paste the information in the quotebox below into the pane where it says “Paste fix here” and then click the Run Fix button.

[Unregister Dlls]
[Registry - Safe List]
< HOSTS File > (768 bytes and 19 lines) -> C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
YN -> Reset Hosts ->
[Custom Scans]
YY ->  mzvscoqf.dll : Unable to obtain MD5  -> C:\WINDOWS\system32\mzvscoqf.dll
[Empty Temp Folders]

The fix should only take a very short time. When the fix is completed a message box will popup telling you that it is finished. Click the Ok button and Notepad will open with a log of actions taken during the fix. Post that information back here.

I will review the information when it comes back in.

Also let me know of any problems you encountered performing the steps above or any continuing problems you are still having with the computer.

Have tried to enter internet and couldn’t.
Opened the OTS prog. and did what you said (had to copy manually the code).
Took 2 or 3 minutes . Then appeared a window asking to reboot the system to continue clearing files…
Have done nothing more yet.
Should I click that ok?
Tks
