Cannot access internet after avast is unistalled/disabled

Ever since installing Avast, when I disable it or uninstall it, My Windows XP prevents me from accessing the internet warning that there isnt a antivirus program installed. With other antivirus programs I didnt see this problem.

Does Avast do anything to the registries or anything else?

Please provide us with a little more information. What is your computer’s OS and why do you want to disable avast?

I am using Windows XP.

I am disabling it beacuse Avast slows down my PC for the first 10 mins every time i reboot. I’ve disabled automatic updates and done other system cleanups (de-fragmentation/spyware/etc) as adviced in the forums. But regardless of that, i wouldn’t think that by disabling avast, i would lose connectivity to the internet.
