cannot access the internet

Im not sure if its the same issue or not, but a few weeks back I had a Pup in my system that stopped me from accessing the internet. I came here and thankfully you helped me resolve the issue.

  1. I cannot access the internet.
  2. My modem and cable are fine as My laptop works off them no problem.
3, I have done scans with Super Antivirus, Avast Premier, Malwarebytes and TDSSkiller and found nothing wrong.
  3. I managed to do a system restore but it didn’t help. I had to try several times, my pc was saying that Avast was stopping it from doing something with some file, and for some reason I couldn’t get out of avast it would restart even when I thought it was closed for good. Eventually the restore went through (several days back).
  4. I have included the initial files I was asked for last time ( I just ran them again) including malware, farbar and awsmbr.

Help would be greatly appreciated, tyvm!

What happened prior to losing internet connection, had you just installed/uninstalled a programme

With the current version of Avast you need to disable self protection prior to running system restore

If this fix does not work and restore the internet then run Minitoolbox

CAUTION : This fix is only valid for this specific machine, using it on another may break your computer

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

CreateRestorePoint: CMD: netsh advfirewall reset CMD: netsh advfirewall set allprofiles state ON CMD: ipconfig /flushdns CMD: netsh winsock reset catalog CMD: netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt CMD: ipconfig /release CMD: ipconfig /renew EmptyTemp: CMD: bitsadmin /reset /allusers

Save this as fixlist.txt, in the same location as FRST.exe

Run FRST and press Fix
On completion a log will be generated please post that

THEN

Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.

I was using the internet no problem, just surfing the web…took a nap, a few hours later had no access.

OK time to do a few simple checks

Is the Wifi turned on ?
Can you connect via an Ethernet cable
Does Control Panel > Device manager show any yellow triangles

everything is hooked up, but not working. Yes I have the yellow triangle on my desktop stating no internet access. I plugged my cable into my laptop and it worked fine. I was on with customer support who stated the modem, IP, connection etc… were all fine. As I stated the only other time this happened was a few weeks ago, I had a pup in my system. Also someone here noticed an adaptor wasn’t right. No signs of pups, I used 4 software types to scan for anything, and the adaptor looked ok. Not sure whats goin on. :frowning:

So the net works if you plug a cable in. This would suggest either the wifi card is broken or your drivers are

Go to control panel > device manager
Open the network section and let me know if there are any yellow triangles

I may have misunderstood you or I wasn’t clear. I cannot access the internet WITH the cable, but I put the cable into my laptop to check and see If my modem and line were working ok and they are. My cable company also confirmed this. My internet and all connections are ok, something in my pc is preventing me from accessing the internet. I even tried windows 8 safe mode with networking and had no access.

It does look like a hardware problem at the moment. Could you check device manager

all are fine. No triangles.

OK next right click the internet icon in your system tray and select troubleshoot

What is the response

It says…Windows cannot communicate with the device or resource (primary DNS Server).

Could you temporarily disable the Avast firewall

its been off.

To me it sounds like a LAN card /Wifi failure. I will see if there is any way to test this

you don’t think its the same issue as the last time?

Symptoms are the same, although that time at least the pup showed up in the scans AND you noticed the adaptor issue.

This is why I think it is a hardware problem,

yeah that’s strange, but the last time when I came here for help, it wasn’t working and then bingo it was… I don’t know tbh…all I know is im crippled without it. I take care of all my elderly mothers affairs, house etc… I keep trying all the usual stuff to no luck.

Open device manager again
Right click the wifi card and select properties
On the general tab does it say the device is working
Repeat for the LAN controller

they all say they are working properly.

OK that means all the drivers are good, but there is no real way to test the cards unless you purchase a USB wifi and test that if it works then the card in the computer is shot. They cost about £5 so they are relatively cheap http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wireless-Adapter-Dongle-Network-802-11b/dp/B00MUQJTWC/ref=sr_1_10?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1423513799&sr=1-10&keywords=pc+wifi+adapter+usb
