Cannot boot hangs on XP splash screen

Thanks for your time. I could not boot my desktop and have tried multiple avenues to try and get it to work. At this point safe mode hangs on gagp30kx.sys. I tried to use some solutions from problems that sounded exactly like mine from the board with no success. Hopefully I did not make the problem worse.

After running FRST here is my log.

Hi first off we will try a restore point as the easy option

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST as before and press Fix
Once done reboot to normal windows

Thanks. I will try once I get home from work tonight and see what happens.

Back to my original issue where hangs on Splalsh screen and safe mode hangs on aswrvrt.sys.

FRST log attached

OK next we will remove Avast

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST as before and press fix

Reboot to normal windows

Still hangs on splash screen and back to the gagp30kx in safe mode. I really appreciate you trying to help me through this.

Unfortunately it looks as though you have been bitten by the MS bug. I can give you a programme which will enable you to backup your data, but I feel you will probably have to reformat

I like the sound of that, thank you. Is it relatively easy to use? I’m by no means an expert, but not an idiot (although some may debate that) either.

Yep easy to use, I will give the CD version and then you can back up all the data you require to USB

Please print these instruction out so that you know what you are doing

[*]Download OTLPENet.exe to your desktop
[*]Ensure that you have a blank CD in the drive
[*]Double click OTLPENet.exe and this will then open imgburn to burn the file to CD

[*]Reboot your system using the boot CD you just created.
Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here
[*]As the CD needs to detect your hardware and load the operating system, I would recommend a nice cup of tea whilst it loads

[*]Your system should now display a Reatogo desktop.
Note : as you are running from CD it is not exactly speedy
[*]Now use it as a normal windows XP to copy your data to a USB drive .
