Hello! Upon restarting my PC a few days ago, I started running into problems very similar to what many others have experienced. Originally, a standard boot would get to the Windows logo and restart. Trying to boot into safe mode, safe mode w/ networking, and safe mode w/ cmd all produced the same result: it would hang after aswbidsha.sys, and restart.
I’ve since built a bootable USB and attempted Window’s ‘Startup Repair’. This supposedly completed successfully, and now indicates “no problems detected” when running it again. Now, the behavior is somewhat different: all boot options result in a black screen with only a cursor and no interactivity. The safe mode options all hang after aswbidsha.sys still, but ‘proceed’ to the same black screen and cursor, albeit with a larger, low-resolution cursor as would be expected for safe mode.
I’ve looked through the numerous threads detailing similar issues; since the solutions seem to be somewhat customized, I thought I’d reach out before trying any of them.
Relevant info:
-I am completely unable to boot the problem PC. I have a bootable Windows USB drive. I don’t have a CD drive on the problem PC, but USB is responsive.
-It is 64-bit Windows 7 Professional N
-Since it’s 64-bit, I haven’t run FRST yet, as per essexboy’s instructions to first create a new thread: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
