i have do a clean install of avast home for today but sience install i cannot browse the internet anymore anything is blocking i can check my emails trough outlook so my internet connection is ok. I have deaktivated my Firewall in this case Pctools Firewall 3…don’t works…ok than i have deaktivated the webshield and than works a little bit but the pages won’t load correctly. Than i had deactivated avast completly and i am able to browse the web again what’s wrong here??
Into the firewall settings, the following programs should be allowed to connect:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe (avast! Web Scanner)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe (avast! e-Mail Scanner Service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\avast.setup (avast! Update executable). This is a temporary file that just appears when an update (check) is about to launch, and disappears again afterwards.
Don’t need rights to connect:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashServ.exe (avast! antivirus service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\aswUpdSv.exe (avast! Update Service)
Do you use any other antivirus or firewall besides avast and PCTools? Did you use in the past?
all rights re set and ok. I have deactivated pctools firewall completly but no effect only when i am shutdown the avast antivirus completly then i can browse the web again so i had never problems with pctools and avast. I am currently without any antivirus protection what can i do. A reinstall don’t fix my problem. An i have no other malware or antivirus products active running on my pc.
If you don’t have (neither had in the past) other antivirus the problem could be with the firewall blocking at driver level… Maybe you could test uninstalling PCTools completely, booting, and test the connection. If it does not work, well, we’ll need to log the WebShield activity to see something strange there (if any).
I have uninstalled pc tools firewall but no effect i have play alittle with the Provider know i know wich app is blocking to browse the websites or have an issue the web scanner when i deactvarte the web scanner modul all works fine i have try to paused it but the same problem i need to completly exit the web shield service then all works fine. So any solutions or workarounds for me about the web shield??
Do you use a proxy application?
If you set your avast proxy settings to ‘None’ instead of ‘Auto’ (Program settings > Update (Connections) > Proxy), will it help?
Activate logging in WebShield:
Edit \data\avast4.ini file
Find the section [WebScanner]
Add the line:
EnableLogging=1
Restart Web Shield in XP (terminate and start again) or whole PC in case of Win98
Browse (trying to access some webpages)
The log file are \data\log\ashwebsv.log and ashwebsv.ws.
They would be accessible when WebShield is terminated again.
Post them here or send by mail to rypacek (at) asw.cz
After that, disable the logging to avoid a big log file.
I do not use a proxy. I am directly connecti8ng to the internet. I hve try one automatic and once direct interrnet connection in the setting bu no effect also.
Josy,
it the first message you are saying that deactivating? (by this you mean terminate?) WebShield did help but not completely. That pages still load with some error? Have you find out which provider needs to be terminated in order for your browsing to work fully ?
Lukas
Edit: Do you have not your firewall installed or uninstalled ?
josy1982, do you use PeerGuardian, any proxy application (like annonimizers), K9 or other internet filter?
If you disable Windows Firewall, can’t you connect?
first i don’t use any of any proxy application or something like that. And i don’t have a windows firewall becasue i am using Windows 2000 Pro SP4 there is none at default. I have uninstalled the pctools firewall but no effect i have to terminate the Webshiled this is the only woraround that i can use at the moment. Hope the dev’S can find the error. However Webshield is not imortant for me. I have realshield on that’s enough at the moment.
Hi,
I have the same problem, but my firewall is Outpost 2008.
I installed on a new partition a new copy of winxp, then the chipset driver and Avast! so I can browse. When I install Outpost it block any navigation.
So I had format and reinstall winxp, the drivers and outpost: I can see the web. After the Avast! installation I cant’t browse…
If I uninstall Avast! I can browse, but If I uninstall outpost and leave Avast I can’t browse…
On the same computer, on another partition, my old winxp, avast and outpost 4 works fine… ???
My connection is based on an usb-adsl modem, without proxy.
I have been watching this from afar and I have to admit I’m totally baffled as to why this is happening as all the usual suspects have been eliminated.
You could try this and see if it works with the web shield enabled, manually set your browser to use the web shield.
If that doesn’t work leave the settings, you may need to disable the transparent proxy of the web shield, see below.
In avast! go to Web Shield provider, Customize…, Basic tab, blank the redirected HTTP port field (remove the 80). Now no browser can use the web shield unless you manually configure it to use Web Shield.
I tried to install outpost4 and it works!
so I update it to 2008 version but it stops to work and i can’t browse again…
It’s an evident incompatibility between Avast4.7 and outpost2008
I have absolutely no problems with outpost firewall pro 4.0 and as you said you didn’t either so the issue is on how outpost firewall 2008 works, what to do about that is the problem.
Do a forum search for outpost 2008 and see what comes up as there have been a few topics where outpost 2008 (suite and stand alone) have been discussed, I don’t know if there might be anything in there to help.
Currently even though I have absolutely no intention to upgrade to outpost 2008 (even though I have a lifetime update license) as I feel it isn’t ready for prime time yet, there are lots of (or were) on the outpostfirewall.com forum about it.
You could try disabling any OP plug-ins especially the anti-spyware and see if that has any effect. I onlt have the attack detection and the dns cache plug-ins enabled.
Have you tried the manual setup of the browsers to use the proxy, etc. I suggested ?
