the server is inaccessible because of a network error or maintenance.
your HTTP proxy settings are incorrect.
your network settings are incorrect.
your firewall isn’t set to full internet access for program “avast*.setup”
For few days now such an error appears when avast tries to update virus database. And i don’t know what to do. Could somebody suggest me something that can help?? ???
Are you trying to update manually or just the automatic set of avast warn you that the server is down?
What are your Connections (Basic) and (Advanced) settings?
Which is your OS? Firewall? Proxy filter?
this message has appered while trying to update manually. Automatic also does’t work - there is this red notification and it says that “error has occured, server might be down”. I run Win XP,no firewall at present. What exactly about connection settings and proxy?
Glad to see this post. I’ve been pulling my hair out (and I can’t afford that!). Same issues. Running XP with ZoneAlarm up or down same thing. Can’t do auto or manual update to VPS. Current file seems to be several weeks old at version 0401-8. I am running a D-link 614+ router…and I have an email in to tech support.
Yes, I can connect there.
I just checked my Windows Task Manager and saw that Avast.setup was still running. I manually ended that task and ran the manual update for the database and got it OK. When I run the manual update for the program I get a screen that says it’s downloading packages, but it doesn’t seem to go anywhere. I will re-boot now and see if Avast.setup comes up again. Don’t know if this is normal or not.
This is not normal. avast.setup should not hang there - if it’s running, it should do the updating. I.e. have elevated/variable CPU usage, mem usage etc. And typically, it shouldn’t take more than a couple of seconds to check that no update is currently available.
ged, I have no trouble with the update, neither manual nor the automatic.
What are your settings for the connections and proxy?
Right click on the system tray icon, choose ‘Start avast! antivirus’ and then, right click the ‘skin’ (program) and choose ‘Settings’. Go to the Connections page…
How do you connect to the Internet? Dial-up or DSL?
Do you use a proxy or not? If you don’t know what is it, you don’t use one…
It’s working!!! There was a problem due to proxy settings. It was supposed to take the setting from IE but I don’t use it anymore (Opera rulez ;D ) So I specified it by myself and everything seems to be OK.
Technical - thanks a lot for your interest in my trouble!! It really helped a lot, and may avast is back in the game
Reading this forum log I decided to check my proxy settings and couldn’t get to them. Checked Windows Task List again, terminated Avast.setup, went back to check proxies and was able to get there. Changed to use IE settings, tested connection OK, still can’t get update to work. I am working the problem with Avast technical support now too.
