Cannot connect out to Avast Account

Under Account after loading quite a bit it says the online content is unavailable I have to check my Internet connection.
I connect out via Wifi to my Broadband Internet Connection and all else works fine.
Did I block this unintentionally or is the service unavailable now? Anyone?
I can normally go here: https://www.avast.com/virus-update-history and AOS also works fine.

sounds like the problem others are having, including myself, it was put under virus and the thread is here

This is incredibly annoying. About to just uninstall and go without. This has just become a reminder that Avast isn’t the product I recommended to my family and friends nearly a decade ago. Hope this gets fixed asap.

It is annoying :o and it is an issue with the Avast server, un unexpected error on their server and they are working on it. Hopefully they fix this soon, asap - see the page snapshot with the error-message.

Its really annoying, but not bothering me since i dont have Avast installed right now.

I hope this gets fixed soon.

It’s working now.

Bloated middle management has lead to bloated avast! software, usually for purposes of increased marketing, which has lead to reduced reliability of the avast! system.

I say get rid of the bloat, and return avast! to being a clean, mean, antivirus machine.

Hi nei1,

Read here as what might have caused that: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=177368.msg1257716#msg1257716
Well dataLoad errors happen and should be fixed a.s.a.p. but this is no base to qualify an AV-solution on.
That is cheap and means that you haven’t a clue about the complicated processes running there.
Agree that common IT should be educated like security trained Technical IT staff is.
That situation should improve but that is a general issue and not an Avast issue,
it comes from the way in which folks are trained (compartment-training - technical security training).
I hope such incidents will open the eyes of decision makers.

Avast Software

We apologize for the mistake today that caused some of our customers to see the Avast interface open repeatedly. Our quick-working team already issued a fix, so that has been resolved. They are continuing to work on the log in.

We assure you that your security was never compromised. This was just a minor, albeit annoying, software error.

Hi Polonus.

I will confess to being ignorant, but not cheap.

I see corporate resources being spread thin, with efforts being expended on auxiliary programs to the neglect of the primary service, giving rise to problems like “server errors.”

In my perfect world, profits are maximized long-term by providing service that avoids trouble instead of causing it; maximizing profits short term with marketing schemes (products hastily pushed on the customer base that never asked for them) only sabotages the primary product and maximization of long-term profits, as a side effect of damaging customer loyalty.

Check the forum. No one is complaining about avast! having poor antivirus performance. But complaints abound about all the auxiliary functions that have been added willy-nilly over the last couple of years, without any concern for usability, in the spirit of “Release product to market, and we’ll clean up the problems later.”

And then, sometimes big problems occur, because “care” is not given sufficient due.

Hi nei1,

Whoever says that you are “cheap” in your comment, it was said and meant in general and never personally. From my experiece as a volunteer website security analyst and website error hunter and also being a proctor at Higher Eductation IT exams I speak with a little experience. I have found that marketing forces and shareholders rule the scene nowadays, they want to have an easy ride and pay cheap for grand revenues.
And just like Dicken’s Scrooge, you cannot have it all getting big shares while on the other hand saving on the penny towards staff. So what is the outcome in many cases? While having maintancance and security monitoring not properly managed, they have to pay a couple of hunderd bucks to freelancers to keep the show up. I do not say that is what has happened here, no way, but you can find such situations more often then not. And always those that loose out first are the end-users. I think that I quite well understood what you were pointing at and that is no ignorance either.

Hi Polonus.

It was tough to wake up this morning, and immediately find my computer broken, with an error message from my avast! client complaining about my connection. I find troubleshooting causes me indigestion.

this is no base to qualify an AV-solution on

I meant no criticism of avast! as an AV-solution. My criticism was pointed at avast!-corporate, whose Marketing Department is out of control to the detriment of their organization.

Of course, that’s just my visualization. But my ESP is often wrong.

Anyway, thanks for the reply. We are certainly in agreement on the failings of unbridled Capitalism.

Oh, I see the comment that I originally quoted was very harsh on everything avast!, including their AV-solution.

I guess I did get on board with that; sorry.

All I can say at this point is that my first choice for an AV program is still avast!.

Still would be nice if they’d reverse some of the bloat…

Hi nei1,

No harm meant and Avast in the mean time has apologized for the server hick-up,
that has now been fixed.
Fine we could have come to some common ground on those two sides of that Great Phishing Pond ;D
Keep up the good work whatever you are doing.
Have a nice day,

polonus

@nei1
I personally couldn’t agree more, and I believe your “points” are well taken.
