Cannot connect to internet

I installed the current Avast Home and could not get the connection manager to come up and connect the DSL. XP would not restart and had to soft boot to get into safemode to uninstall Avast uninstaller didn’t work it would freeze up. I’m using Look’n’Stop for a firewall and there is no other av installed. How do I correct this?

Hi…

What AV did you use before Avast and how was it uninstalled?

Best Regards…

I was using Trend Micro that cones packaged with VCom Fixit Utilities. It removes its self completely there are no leftover artifacts.

Took me a while to find anything clickable-repliable-newthreadable… My ex installed avast and it (avast) seems to run ALL THE TIME!!! It slows all programs, kicks me out of some, offers updates and google shopping at most unsuitable times. Any of you can suggest a way to limit scans to night time? Reviews are good and I don’t really want to uninstall it. Also can I reliably (not Microsoftly) set a password so my ex can’t screw (pardon) the settings and delete my documents? He has to have the keys to put our toddler to bed but doesn’t have to use my PC… :frowning:
Thanks…

You need to start your own thread. Can you go to the ‘General Topics’ section and click ‘New Topic’?

Hi…

Ok, do you get the same results (your system freezing up) with the uninstall utility here…

I unistalled it manually first in safe mode and then ran the unistall utility to get anything I missed off. Getting it off wasn’t the problem getting it to work correctlly is.

Hi…

From the latter post, I thought you were having a problem getting avast uninstalled. ;D

The only thing(s) I can think of that is preventing avast from working correctly at this point is perhaps a conflict with your firewall, a malware infection that you may not know about or there still are bits and pieces left over from Trend Micro.

Try running the Trend Micro uninstall tool to see if this may be a possibility, however unlikely…

It’s an older version so it may or may not work anyway.

You can also try installing avast with your firewall completely disabled to see if that helps. To check for malware, I suggest a regimen created by a fellow member of this forum, Tech. Scroll down to the fourth post at this thread…

Hope this helps.
