I received a desktop notification that Avast wants to update the program but for days now I get the alert that avast cannot connect to the server.

Disable your firewall and see if it solves the problem.

Even if the firewall software and avast had been getting along without a problem for over a year now?

I had to do this even though my ZA (and Prevx) had been peacefully co-existing for a long time.

To solve it. Open ZA, remove ALL apllications form the allow list, remove ALL components from the allow list and let ZA set the rules if a application ask for access.
