I keep getting a RED error message, informing me that Avast could not connect to the network. The Internet connection is fine, but I am running a ZoneAlarm firewall. Could it be that this is the reason for the error? If so, how do I specify to ZoneAlarm to let Avast through? I suspect that tthis happens while the screen saver is running.

is it possible to do a manual update - if Yes, the basic zone alarm seetings are fine.
Have You ZA configured to ask if a new program wants to connect to the internet ? - If yes, you should be asked if avast wants to connect the first time.
Have You ZA configured to block internet traffic complete if the screen saver is running - if yes, you should allow avast to bypass this block.

try Peter’s suggestions. If that doesn’t solve it, remove ZA, try the update. If that is working, reinstall ZA and set the apropiate permissions.
