I can access any website I wish but when I try to go to Google’s home page it will not connect, this is the site I cannot connect to and being something I use regularly is getting really annoying, I have my home page through Virgin where there is a search engine ‘powered by google’ and this works fine but opens up the search results in a nother window? Anyone know why or can help me rectify the problem.
I’m right now also using Virgin Mobil’s USB dongle to connect but have no problem.
Can you provide us with the URL (link) your using to get to Google’s website ??? http://www.google.com/
When i click on the link in your message it just says that internet explorer cannot connect and cannot find a reason why, the connection is sent to the site but no reply is received, i hvae the same problem with google chrome
Check this out - HOSTS file redirect a common malware tactic to block AV sites, etc. making it difficult to remove malware - 127.0.0.1 check your HOSTS file using notepad or a text editor of your choice, C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts or do a search for HOSTS to find it if not there.
hi guys… i guess i have the same problem. i cant use google chrome, mozilla, IE if i dont switch off the web shield. this didnt happen before. it just happened. i dont know why or when. i was able to solve the problem (i think) when i downloaded IObit 360 and did a scan. then i fixed everything and i was able to use the browsers without switching off webshield. but then i had a problem with ASC v4 beta. so i had to restore my C drive from back up. and this happened again. i tried doin the IObit 360 trick, but nothing happened. any ideas? thanks…

er… what should i do? and you said reboot right? and check again. i did restart then started MS fix it. is that what you mean or i will run MBAM as what you mean by “check”…? sorry if im a bit slow…
You’re supposed to run the MS Fix It (which you already did), reboot your computer, then try to access the site again, but the suggestion was for the OP, not you. You seem to have a different problem, and are using different software.
This isn’t an IOBIT forum, it’s an Avast forum. You should be posting your question on their forum (http://forums.iobit.com/), and you stated that you’re using a BETA, which could account for your problems.
No need for MBAM scans any further. It did not find anything in the first run, so it won’t find anything now.
Is your problem solved? If not, please start your own new thread and we deal with it there.
If you have IOBIT installed, then uninstall it - same goes for any other AV / AntiSpyware prog except Avast. This will solve interfering between progs. If possible, use the vendors removal-progs (if existing), here is a list: CLICK!
Make sure you have Avast 6.0.1125 installed - if not, click on the blue “Free” in my signature, download the installer and install right over the existing version, no need to uninstall first.
@scythe944: thanks. er… im pretty sure its quite obvious to me that this is avast forum. i did go to iobit forum but it wasnt as interactive as AVAST. here, you guys answered our querries and helped quickly. but back on IObit forum, i waited a week, and still pffft. so since maybe its either avast and IObit program clash, i sought help on on both forums. guess i found here better.
@steven: i uninstalled ASC v4 and IObit 360. also used the bitlocker. and now im here. hehehe… my websheild is still running. thanks! but can you suggest an alternative for the ASC? or IObit 360? thanks again!
+1 to that. MBAM free + Avast Free works quite well.
@JLRX
Sorry, sometimes users don’t really know what they’re doing so we have to assume that sometimes in our responses.
I’m glad that you could find the answer here. I didn’t even see that you had Avast installed as well as the IOBIT stuff, so I thought that maybe you had googled your problem and found the OP’s question to be relevant to your situation.
Anyway, you should have an answer to your question about an alternative for ASC, as we all usually recommend MBAM around here for one simple reason. It works, and it’s free. If you wish to have pro-active protection from spyware/malware, you could choose to pay for the Professional version of MBAM if you wish, and it works well along side of Avast.
Scythe944, I believe the ASC is Advanced System Care (also by IOBit) and equals more or less things like TuneUp or GlaryUtilities. I wouldn’t recommend any of them as it’s just sham IMO.
Uninstall ASC and then, just like the Fab Four have put it: “Let it be”. ;D
I know all about IOBIT and wouldn’t even waste the bandwidth needed to download them. I was just adding my input to your recommendation of MBAM as an alternative (well not alternative, since it’s clearly a superior product).
