Yep, agreed.
JosefK post:2:Hello,
this is unfortunately as designed. The same behaviour could be seen in Google Chrome as well.
Best regards,
JosefThanks, but you are not correct. I do not have this problem in either Chrome or Opera.
I consider this a bug in the Avast Browser. There is no logic for the Bookmarks Bar to show
when it’s turned OFF. Only showing in “New Tab” makes even less sense. This is a nuance
that needs to be fixed.Cheers
I apologize. Since the New Tab already seems to open Google Search, I did not pay attention
to the details on that page, assuming it was Google.com. I guess the problem is that there is
no way to set the New Tab page in the settings.
In all other browsers, I have Google.com opening in New Tab, which is NOT showing any
Bookmarks bar. I don’t see why Avast could not add this simple feature.
And yes, I still blame Avast team for this nuance.
Cheers

He is correct.
Here’s a video I just created in Chrome that proves the anomaly.

But in that video, you don’t have the New Tab set to Google.com…

It’s a documented Chromium problem.

Opera browser is also Chromium based. Here is New Tab using default settings:
