i have bought the avast professionals for my desktop and my laptop. i downloaded and installed avast successfully on my desktop.
but i cant install it on my laptop.
i tried downloading the universal avast (300mb). but when i install it, it doesnt work.
i also tried downloading the full file setup (about 38 mb), but i always get an error and it does not complete the download.
i have uninstalled norton already.
i have deleted all the older avast files.
i have tried turning off the firewall. but nothing seems to work for my laptop.
it has windows vista (32 bit). it has a lot of free space on the drive.
Chances are, you used add remove programs to remove Norton. Which works perfectly with almost all programs. But Norton and McAfee
are known exceptions.
And what you need to do is go to the Norton website and download their special uninstaller. Which will get rid of Norton totally and hence not cause conflicts with installing Avast or other anti programs. Its a known problem with Norton and chances are what ails you. I can’t say for sure its definitely the problem, but its the first thing I would try if I were in your boat.

The presence of Norton should not affect the download of the full setup file, only the installation.
What error are you getting when attempting to download the file?
i uninstalled norton using the norton removal tool but still no good.
i can download the universal file. but when i RUN it it says “there was an error while completing the set-up process”

when i try to dwnld the full set-up… it gets stuck at 202kb. and then it shows an error
ie cannot download setupengpro.exe fron download787.avast.com. operation timed out.
