I decided on my works computers to upgrade them from Home Edition to Pro
Downloaded Pro 4.8 from website to desktop then installed.
It found my Home Edition and proceeded to uninstall that before proceeding to install Pro edition after a re-boot
When it finished, I still had the Home Edition reinstalled on my hard drive.
I have tried to load Pro twice now but each time I still finish up with the Home ed, back where I started.
It defiantly uninstalls the Home ed first.
It doesnt ask for a licence key as there appears to be one installed - is it my original Home ed key I wonder
I am confused ???
Did you run the uninstall utility from safe mode (after having uninstalled avast home) ?
Have you entered your Pro license yet ?
If not I don’t know what about avast would report, I don’t know if it would report Pro Trial version (or Home) until you enter your Pro license.
After playing with both my laptop and desktop I have found the answer.
If you run the uninstall utility in normal Windows mode:-
Start > Programs > Avast displays “Pro” edition
Bottom task bar blue ball > About displays “Home edition”
If you run the uninstall utility in Safe Mode:
Start > Programs > Avast displays “Pro” edition
Bottom task bar blue ball > About displays “Pro edition”
So there`s the answer, to upgrade from Home to Pro you must uninstall in SAFE MODE
No, normally you should have to do no more than enter the Pro key.
This has failed for some reason for you and that is why we are suggesting a clean reinstall.
The Uninstall Utility is mode effective when run from safe mode because a) avast doesn’t run in safe mode and b) you wouldn’t have to fight the self-defence module if you were in normal mode.
You should still have used add remove programs to uninstall avast before running the uninstall utility. If that succeeded then you could have run it from normal mode and if not you would have to have used it from safe mode. Guess what, that is exactly what my instructions said in very first reply.
Yes I did.
I used the unistall software in SAFE MODE.
I re-booted back to Windows and deleted the remaining AVAST folder in Program Files.
I then used REg 1st Aid to clean out any remaining reg entries
Finally installed Avast Pro, then after requested re-boot inserted licence key
