cannot open MS-Office-Files anymore after installation of Avast Home 4.6

I installed avast home 4.6 on my computer (windows 2000, office 2003+sp1). Everything seemed to be fine until I realized that I couldnt open anymore MS-Office-files. When I open a word-file for example, I get the following message:

Diese Meldung kann angezeigt werden, weil ein Antivirusprogramm nicht zulässt, dass die Datei geöffnet wird. Dies kann auf eine der folgenden Ursachen zurückzuführen sein. Das Antivirusprogramm muss (aufgrund eines Kompatibilitätsproblems mit dieser Anwendung) aktualisiert werden oder die Datei ist mit einem Virus infiziert, den das Antivirusprogramm nicht entfernen oder richtig behandeln kann.

Short in English: This message may be because a antivirus-programm isnt allowing to open the file. This may have several reasons: the av-programm needs to be updated because of an compatibility-problem or the file may be infected with a virus (note: it isnt, because I scanned it).

I then close word and get asked if I want to save the file normal.dot. I then press cancel and word quits. I already tried to delete normal.dot but this didnt do anything. I also searched for an option in ms word - also nothing.

Did anyone of you have a similar problem and know what to do?
I really appreciate any help!
Thanx in advance!

Bob

I don’t think this problem could be caused by avast!..
Does it help when you stop avast! resident protection (or just the Standard Shield provider) temporarily? (using the avast! icon in the system tray)

no - it doesnt help when I stop the protection temporarily. The problem occured after I deinstalled norton antivirus and installed avast. Before every office-document opened normally - so I think it has to do with avast.

did you get rid of norton completely?
try searching for “uninstall norton” on this forums.

Hi

If i remember right NAV has a Doc scannin applet that checks doc files as they are opened & before Word displays them.

NAV can be very hard to remove & needs special cleanin tools from Symantec site.

I think maybe that the Nav Doc scanner part hasnt been fully removed.
