I recently switched from AVG to Avast. With Avast, I cannot receive email. If I go to the On-Access Scanner and remove the POP redirect (delete it so that it is empty), I can download my email. I am using Outlook Express.
POP redirect was 110, and Outlook Express is set to 110.
As far as I know AVG was fully uninstalled. I used the AVG uninstaller, and the AVG folder is gone.
I checked running processes and do not see anything that looks like it belongs to AVG. I do see ashMaiSv.exe is running.
Regarding operating system and firewall, I’m using Windows XP and Comodo. I checked the Firewall Network Policy in Comodo, and ashMaiSv.exe was set as a web browser. I changed it to a Trusted Application, but still same problem. I then checked the Defense+ Security Policy, and ashMaiSv.exe had a custom policy. I changed it to a Trusted Application, and still same problem. I then tried shutting down Comodo, and still same problem!
Delete the ashMaiSv.exe entries and try to send/receive emails again.
Allow the connections…
Some glitches into firewall settings could block emails to be sent/received.
I double-checked the Firewall Network Policy in Comodo, and ashMaiSv.exe was still set as a web browser. Evidently I neglected to click the “Apply” button.
I set it to a Trusted Application, and now it works.
