I have tried three times to register Avast free. I never get an email to register it? When I tried to get it to resend the key I get an email that says “no such email is in our database?” I have even tried it with another email address… same result? Yet you respond to my same email address with the reply “no such email” I have been a happy user of Avast for years on other PCs. Why can’t I get it to work on my new laptop that is completely up to date in all aspects??? Frustrated user

Nope… It does NOT work from within the program?? It still says it is sending me a registration license, but it sends me this instead every time:

Hello,

Somebody, hopefully you, filled in the avast! Home Edition license resend form on page http://www.avast.com/resend-license-free-antivirus.php. We are sorry, but we have no record in our database for the email address provided. If you need a license key for avast! Home Edition, please use this online form to get one: http://www.avast.com/registration-free-antivirus.php

After registering at the page the email sends me to (same page the program itself sends me to also)… It shows that I have successfully registered:

"Your free license key is sent by email within 24 hours after this registration
If you do not receive your license within 24 hours, please check your junk or SPAM folder. You need to enter the license key in the program to continue to use it after the trial period expires (detailed instructions for inserting the license key are included in the email)"

BUT… IT DOESN’T EVER SEND ME ANYTHING BUT AN ERROR FORM that I posted above???
Something ain’t working right???

If you use the Online Reg, then there is no key…just Your Name and a valid Email address

On-line registration is very simple and it’s the preferred method for all users of avast Free Antivirus 5.x installed on a computer with standard Internet connectivity. To perform on-line registration follow these steps:
http://support.avast.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=459

Generally speaking, the message “no such email is in our database” indicates that there is no user registered with that company/organization under the email address supplied. Therefore they can’t resend a key for a user who doesn’t exit.

Now specific to registering avast! The easiest way is from the within the program itself, as suggested by Pondus.
Does this not work?

You said: “If you use the Online Reg, then there is no key…just Your Name and a valid Email address”

This does not seem to be the case any more? It takes me to the online registration form and then supposedly sends me a registration key? …but it doesn’t work?

I have been a happy Avast user for years and have recommended it to hundreds of people… It’s ironic that now it won’t work for me???

No solution for you I guess but I just asked for a resend at http://www.avast.com/resend-license-free-antivirus.php and reply was immediate.

So, oh this pointless excercise instead of filing a 5 lines form in the GUI and clicking a button. Well, uh. ::slight_smile:

I DID indeed try to use the “5 line form in the GUI” you idiot! I guess you have trouble reading? Thanks for the rude reply!
Very helpful? ???

Vary mature reaction. ::slight_smile: ;D

Apparently I cannot, since nowhere you have mentioned you tried to register via the avast! GUI. Oh, and if you trying all of this with v4, than you might as well stop wasting even more of your time, uninstall it and install v6 which is actually developed and not dead like v4.

P.S. Thanks for the “polite” reply. Very helpful?

Avast 4.0 license/key will not work with v.6.0x, and as already mentioned, v.4.0 support is being discontinued any day now. You do not mention what version you have installed, but you should have the current version 6.0.1000. There is also a Pre-Release v.6.0.1044 available.

  1. Save a copy of Avast and save it to your HDD:
http://www.avast.com/download-software – all products (Free, Pro, AIS)
  2. Download the new Avast Uninstall Utility http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear6.exe and save it to your HDD.
  3. Disconnect from the Internet at this time.
  4. Go to Control Panel and uninstall Avast through Add/Remove Programs if possible and reboot.
  5. If Step 4 fails, boot into Safe Mode (hit F8 repeatedly) and run the Avast Uninstall Tool. Uninstall ALL previous Avast versions and products on this machine at this time.
  6. Reboot.
  7. Install the newest version of Avast and reboot.
  8. Get Internet access and register your copy for Free:
    Free – http://www.avast.com/registration-free-antivirus.php
  9. Update the Avast definitions.

Make sure you have the most up to date version of Avast installed and try registering this via the GUI (not by email). If you have v.4.0, I would do the uninstall/clean install. See if this fixes your problem and let us know how this works. Thank you.

Already solved.
