Cannot Reinstall adnm

Scratching My Head here!
Installed Demo version of adnm and everything appeared to be fine…After setting everything up
Started Deployment to clients and after a short period it seemed to time out, the system just froze. Needless to say I had to restart the server and then I couldn’t log into the AMS at all. After spending some time reading through a few threads and trying this that and the other I decided to uninstall and reinstall (it would be quicker)
Well that was a bad mistake because now I can’t even install it. the app gets as far as the licence manager to which I click demo and ok. It just brings up an error ’ Licenses for the following products are missing or invalid AV_NETC please make sure you are using the correct license file’
So how do I get around this one?? Help is definately appreciated!

What about the system clock, isn’t it incorrectly set? (especially the YEAR value)

Hmm… Very Good! The system clock is spot on, but I do Know that the clock was fast at the time of installation but I can’t remember by how much and guess what? I put it right and obviously stuffed Avast up. What a complete and utter noob!! I should of thought of the consequences first! So any body know how I can rectify this? THX.

Hello? Can anybody help?? (vlk; the year was ok the clock was only out by approx 40 mins)
If I scrapped the idea of using the demo version altogether and just bought the suite would I be able to install without any problems? Why should the system clock make any difference to the way Avast operates? (Is that down to the demo version?), what would happen if system clock deviates and you sync your win time properties externally? will Avast fall over every time you log in?

Let’s try to reinstall the DEMO version first.

First, I’d need to know if you’re using the latest version of ADNM install package? When did you download it? And where from?

The reason I asked about the system clock is that the license (of course) has a validity constraint (i.e. expiration date in it). If your system clock was set say to year 2010, the license wouldn’t be considered as valid anymore…

Thanks

Ok Thx Vlk,
I downloaded the adnm package last thursday with the included msde, Installed it on friday and didn’t start configuring it until monday. ‘just to refresh’ Everything was fine until the machine locked up through the net client deployment. It was then after restart that I could not log in. Uninstalled and tried to reinstall but without success. I cleansed the registry and the directories of any redundant files/data that were left thinking that they may have been causing a problem with the install but the same situation arose. I also corrected the system clock. (which was after the initial install) If it also helps I originally installed the server trial version as I was not aware of the adnm package. This had been installed and running for about 4 days. Before I Installed the adnm package this was uninstalled. Hope I haven’t forgotten anything! THX

  1. The avast netclient package is (still) installed on the machine? (well, if it ever was, ie. however it completed after the install process that hung up)

  2. If no part of avast (neither ADNM nor netclient) is supposed to be installed at this point, please delete the whole HKLM\Software\ALWIL Software reg key and try again to install ADNM.

Would the DEMO license key work now?

Thanks
Vlk

Ok I have to be honest, I didn’t think that would work because I searched the reg and deleted the files already and tried to reinstall with no look but when I looked manually the alwil directory was still there! can’t really work that out? Well I deleted the directory and have reinstalled the demo successfully. I have set up the console with no problems but when I have run the task to find computers in the domain the AMS can only find one client and the computer icon was red So I imediately scanned the the machine and let avast do its thing again with no problems. The only thing is when I run the find computer task it still only finds this one machine.(now with a green icon) Now this machine is the only machine on the domain running the net client which I installed manually before my initial adnm problems. Well I’m going to have a good look tomorrow and see what I can break! So on that note Thanks Vlk much appreciated I can carry on trying before I buy! (I am going to buy it anyway the support on here is worth every penny! )

  1. Do you use ActiveDirectory? If so, please check the “Use ActiveDirectory” box in the discovery task’s properties.

  2. If you’re NOT using ActiveDirectory, please note that avast can only detect computers that are turned on, and that are in the Network Neighbourhood. That is, it should detect the same computers as if you go to “My Network Places” → “Entire Network”.

Thanks
Vlk

I didn’t expect a reply to this Vlk as it was really turning into another thread! Thx! When I set the find task Active Directory was the choice and I sussed that it was only picking the 1 machine up which is on the wireless network because it was the only mobile user switched on at the time. The firewall had actually blocked access to the LAN which I’ve rectified this morning and ran the task again without any problems, I am now in the process of deploying to the other clients and I feel it’s gonna go smoothly!, Thanks for all your help Vlk, Tandee.
