So, my registration has expired, and I have to renew it. However, every way I’ve tried to do so thus far has not worked. If I click the “Renew” button on the “Status” tab of Avast, the main part of the avast window just turns white and nothing happens. If I go into settings, click “Registration,” and then click register now a little window pops up that says “Loading,” but then nothing happens. I’ve also tried doing it by filling out a registration form and entering that in the “Insert License Key” window, but I am told that it’s not a valid key, even though I just obtained it through email. What is going on here?
Try an avast! repair…
Control Panel>Program and Features>Uninstall a Program>Avast>Change>Repair and then reboot. (IMPORTANT)
What exact version of avast do you have installed?
Program version: 32767.65535
Virus definitions version: ffffff-ff
I’m on my computer almost constantly though, so I have no idea how I would have missed an update.
… The program version should be 9.0.2011.
Do you have the VPS versions censored or something? No need to…
I think this is a corrupt install so…
- Download Avastclear, Rejzors uninstall tool and the appropriate Avast program edition
Note: You need to be ONLINE during this install

Avastclear : http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avastclear.exe
Rejzors Uninstall tool: http://rejzor.wordpress.com/avast-cleanup-tool/
- Uninstall Avast by control panel [If you don’t have Avast in control Panel go to #4]
- Uninstall in safe mode using Avastclear.
- Run Rejzors Uninstall Utility in Normal Mode (removes traces avastclear doesn’t) - reboot.
Check : Once uninstalled check in device manager>view>show hidden devices if there is anything related to avast with a yellow triangle… if so, uninstall it and reboot. - Install the version you downloaded.
- Reboot.
When I tried to uninstall it in the control panel, it gave me an error.

Also, that version number is from where it’s shown in the support section, but above it says 9.0.2008.177, so i’m at a loss.
Edit: When I try to end the Avast! process or service I get an error saying “The operation could not be completed. Access is denied.”
Go to stage 3 then. Make sure you do both 3 and 4.
Is there corresponding links for full downloads so you need not be online ?
I always like to unplug from the net during the uninstall and install…until I have A/V back online don’t like that active link…call me paranoid.
Alright, everything is working now. Thank you very much. My computer seems to enjoy screwing with me.

Yes… BUT in some cases the offline installer doesn’t work, whereas the online one does. It has something to do with the wrong SFX in some installers.
Offline ones…

Thx, I started a uninstall-install thread little while back if nothing else to post all the how-to.
I’ll add this…thx.
