I have a problem I cannot find in the help section, when I run avast at the end of the scan it says some files could not be scanned and some of them are avast files.
I maybe thought I have the settings wrong but I just don’t know…The size usually is about 2 GB large…lot of files.
Any ideas or help will surely be welcome…
Thank you
First, the use of a background colour doesn’t not help highlight, but obscure the text and centering just adds to the obscurity.
This is covered frequently in the forums so I don’t know what search term you used or if you used the forum search function.
Files that can’t be scanned are just that, not an indication they are suspicious/infected, just unable to be scanned.
Many programs (usually security based ones) password protect their files for legitimate reasons such as AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy, there are others (and avast doesn’t know the password or have any way of using it even if it did know it).
When you run scans with the above programs and you delete harmful entries that they detect, a copy is kept (in quarantine/restore/backup) in case you need to reverse what you did. These are usually password protected, you should do some housekeeping and delete old backup/recovery/quarantine entries (older than two weeks or so), this will reduce the numbers of files that can’t be scanned.
By examining 1) the reason given by avast! for not being able to scan the files, 2) the location of the files, you can get an idea of what program they relate to. You may need to expand the column headings to see all the text.
If you can give some examples of those file names, the locations and reason given why it can’t be scanned might help us further ?
- Decompression Bomb, a file that is highly compressed, which could be very large when decompressed. This used to be a tactic long ago to swamp the system, also see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=15389.msg131213#msg131213.
The name really is the most dangerous thing about this and I wish they would change it or simply not report it, a real PITA.
I do not see anywhere it says anything about the way we write a email here. I am new here and was not aware of this.
I don’t no why they have all the formatting available if its can’t be used.
Thanks anyway…I will look elsewhere for help…where it does matter how I write
There are no general rules about formatting but when those trying to help find it hard to see what you have typed, it just makes it harder for them to do that.
Please yourself, the advice on formatting was just that advice as it helps you too, if it is easier for people to read.
Perhaps I shouldn’t have wasted my free time either, reading your post and responding to it with the answer you sought.
David,
This again proves that some days it doesn’t pay to get out of bed. You bend over backwards to help someone and they just want to complain
because you gave them the advice they asked for and a little bit more…
