Hi all, I am having problems sending/receiving emails using my Outlook 2003 program. It keeps giving me the error message: Outlook is not able to connect to my incomming (POP3) email server. I am running Avast 4.7 and I want to know how to solve this problem :-
Thanks!
Make sure the avast plugin is not disabled in MS Outlook:
Outlook 2003 > Help > About > Disabled items
Yes, I enabled it and still nothing
Which firewall do you use?
Into the firewall settings, the following programs should be allowed to connect:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe (avast! Web Scanner)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe (avast! e-Mail Scanner Service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\avast.setup (avast! Update executable). This is a temporary file that just appears when an update (check) is about to launch, and disappears again afterwards.
Don’t need rights to connect:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashServ.exe (avast! antivirus service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\aswUpdSv.exe (avast! Update Service)
I use the Windows XP firewall
If you disable avast scanning (pop and smtp), will you be able to get your email?
Everything is strange… XP firewall couldn’t block avast… You’ve checked if the plugin is installed…
I can’t figure out what is wrong…
Wow…I disabled Avast and my Outlook still would not send/recieve mail. This is very strange because my ISP couldn’t figure out the problem and it said it must be my Avast. But what bothers me is that this problem occured when I upgraded my Basic DSL to regular high speed. Could it be that this recent upgrade caused something in Outlook or Avast?
The other part is always guilty… …
It shouldn’t…
If you configure your Outlook Express to use your accounts, will it work?
If you uninstall avast, will MS Outlook work?
