Cannot start up program

I have installed Avast 5 and when I open the control panel it wants me to start the program by clicking a button that says start program. But when I click this nothing happens.

Can anyone help me pls?

Have you rebooted after the installation ?

Have (or did) you another Anti-Virus installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

You say you tried the Start program, but nothing happened, is that the same for Fix Now ?

Yes I have restarted the computer.

I had Avast 4.8 installed before. I uninstalled it using windows programs tool in control panel.

Yes I have tried the Fix Now button also and it does the same thing.

Nothing before avast 4.8 ?

If not I would suggest a clean reinstall:

  • Download avast 5.0.418 free antivirus (if you didn’t save it previously) and save to your HDD where you can find it later.

  • Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here ensure you get the version5 one (it has multiple different version uninstall tools), aswClear5.exe and save it to your HDD.

    1. Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for avast 4.8 followed by avast 5.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.
