Cannot turn on shields

Avast Free Antivirus / Premium Security

I found that all shields were turned off but I cannot turn them on. Don’t know since when but it used to work fine.
Reinstalled Avast (free antivirus) with newest version - same problem.
What can I do?

  • Which version/build of Avast Free…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

I am using Windows-7 Home Premium SP1 (64bit)
and Avast 22.3.6008 (build 22.3.7108.528)
Without Avast I only use Windows Defender

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of any prior installed AV(s)…!!
→ https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/11/

Then:

  1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

About 600MB :slight_smile:

The on-line installer just downloads a stub installer and controls the installation downloading components required.

Although called the off-line installer it still requires a connection (not sure why now, checking for any updates, etc.), many people also save a copy of the off-line installer as a fallback.
